Landscape
The two sites at Coleshill Heath Road occupy sustainable and well-defended positions within the existing built-up urban area, forming a logical extension to the surrounding residential and commercial development. The sites are enclosed by a series of strong and defensible boundaries, including established residential neighbourhoods, existing road infrastructure, mature vegetation, and the wider Birmingham Business Park development. These features provide a clear distinction between the sites and the surrounding countryside, helping to contain development and reinforce a well-defined urban edge.
Existing mature trees, hedgerows, and landscaped boundaries make an important contribution to the character of the area and provide a strong sense of enclosure. These landscape features will be retained and enhanced wherever possible as part of the proposals, helping to integrate the developments into their surroundings and soften views from adjacent areas.
A landscape-led approach has informed the emerging proposals, with green infrastructure playing a central role in the design of both developments. New native tree and hedgerow planting will strengthen the sites’ green framework, while areas of open space and landscaped edges will provide attractive and active settings for future residents. Together, these measures will create a soft and gradual transition between the built form and surrounding areas, ensuring the developments sit comfortably within the wider landscape.
The proposals also seek to improve connectivity and accessibility through enhanced pedestrian and cycle links to the surrounding highway network, nearby residential areas, employment opportunities, and local facilities. These on-site routes will be integrated with new planting and public realm improvements, encouraging walking and cycling as sustainable modes of travel.
Overall, the proposals aim to deliver sensitively designed residential developments that respond positively to the existing urban context, retain important landscape features, and maintain a clear and appropriate transition between the urban area and the surrounding areas.
